SWINDON CANCER APPEAL: Swindon Cancer Appeal supporters will be out in force over the Christmas period.
Next week, fundraisers will be at the Wyvern Theatre with their collecting buckets to get donations from the audience.
People attending the evening performances of the Swindon Gang Show, which runs from November 26 to November 29, will be able to add their cash to the appeal total.
The Macmillan Cancer Relief Swindon committee will be in action again at the Designer Outlet Village. For four weeks, Macmillan volunteers will man a Christmas present wrapping stall, near the food court, from 10am to 6pm Monday to Friday.
The Outlet Village is donating all wrapping materials.
Swindon committee member Vilma Munro, 67, will be one of the helpers at the Outlet Village.
She said: "I'm very much looking forward to wrapping presents. We always have fun and folk are very generous."
A Christmas poster scheme is also running in aid of the appeal. Often it is just not practical to send a Christmas card to all your colleagues, so inevitably someone gets offended. The idea is that people give a donation to the appeal in return for writing their own seasonal message on the poster.
It is hoped the posters will soon start appearing on walls in offices, schools and factories across the town.
Swindon committee chairwoman Gillian Thornton said: "We are looking forward to all the Christmas fundraising events
"We are so pleased the Swindon Gang Show invited us to do a collection after their shows. They will announce it in the theatre as well so people will be aware will be coming round.
"We will be paid to do the wrapping services, and all our wages will go to the appeal, so that will make £2,000 before we even start receiving donations. We wrap anything that has been bought in the Outlet Village in the past we have had huge items like golf clubs and massive cuddly toys."
Tickets for Swindon Gang Show start from £7 and there is a 7.30pm start. Call the Wyvern Theatre on 01793 524481 for details.
To order a poster for your workplace, call the Macmillan office on 01793 601636. The total raised for the appeal to date is £200,855.
