DECEMBER is a busy month for anglers and angling clubs for it is at this time of the year that nearly all clubs organise Christmas Fare competitions both for members and also open events.
Every year these events attract club members who never otherwise take part in angling competitions and inevitably they take home a fair share of the prizes on offer. This is the chance for the ordinary club member to have an enjoyable day out and demonstrate that the ordinary club member can compete with the best.
The first of this year's matches takes place on November 23 when the Avon Commercial League stages its match on the Bristol Avon at Bathford.
The following Saturday Airsprung AC will be holding its event on the Kennet and Avon Canal and Bath Spartans will be holding their Christmas match at Hunstrete Lake.
On December 6 the Avon Christmas match will take place at Melksham. Sunday December 7 sees the Bristol and West Open Christmas match at Keynsham, Ridgeway Christmas match at Freshford and the Chippenham Junior Christmas match at Chippenham.
The Calne Junior Christmas match takes place on Saturday December 13 and on Sunday December 14 the always well supported Bathampton Open Christmas match will be fished at Newbridge to Saltford. On the same day the Chippenham Christmas match takes place at Chippenham, Lavington match at Merritts Lake, Calne match at Hazeland and Kingswood and Hanham RBL match at Swineford.
Both the Frys Open Christmas match, at Frys, and the Bath Christmas match at Bathford take place on Saturday December 21 .
