AN alcoholic was found drunk hours after he was given an anti-social behaviour order banning him from drinking in public.
Unemployed Simon Burnley, of Alma Street, Trowbridge, was arrested after he walked in the middle of School Lane, Staverton, at 11pm on November 7. Cars had to swerve around him.
Burnley, 28, admitted being in breach of the ASBO at Chippenham magistrates' court.
Nicola Wootton, prosecuting, said police had been called to Staverton after a man was reported to be lying in the road. Officers found Burnley smelling of alcohol and unsteady on his feet before he walked off.
Burnley was given the ASBO earlier on November 7 after admitting lying drunk in Canal Road the previous day. Magistrates gave the order for offences including criminal damage and indecent exposure.
Michael Jeary, defending, said: "He has to realise he cannot take alcohol at all, not even a can. He has done seven days in prison which has done him a world of good."
Magistrates decided the week Burnley spent in jail on remand was sufficient penalty.
They ordered that his ASBO and an 18-month conditional discharge should remain in place.
