FORMER Swindon Town legend Steve White has been given the job of rescuing Chippenham Town from relegation.
White, 44, took over this week after Chippenham were flooded with applications for the manager's post in the wake of Tommy Saunders' sacking.
Now White is calling on the fans to come back to Hardenhuish Park to back the side's bid to beat the drop from the Dr Martens Premier Division.
His first game in charge will be at home to Basingstoke in the FA Trophy second round on Saturday.
He said: "This is a great club and I am really delighted to be manager. I have been keen to get back into the game but it has to be at the right club and this is it.
"We have got a decent squad, last year they were in the top five with pretty much the same players.
"I have heard all about the fans and their tremendous support. I just hope they will turn out to back the team because they can make such a difference.''
