MAY I share Nigel Kerton's joy in the redevelopment of Savernake Hospital scheduled to start in January 2004. However, may I suggest that the best sentence in the Gazette's leader on November 20 is reworded as follows to give it historical accuracy.

"The first of the present buildings, designed by the architect Sir Gilbert Scott in 1970, was opened in 1972 at a cost of just under £5,000."

Otherwise some of your readers might conclude that no subsequent developments took place.

Some of these are listed in my short history of the hospital in 1996 (reprinted copies are available from me); others have occurred as a result of the generosity of the League of Hospital Friends and some by the health authorities such as the Day Hospital and Rehabilitation Departments which are modern enough to remain in the current hospital plans.
