A volunteer organisation which provides a good neighbour service is appealing for new recruits.

Calne and District Community Link offers services from shopping trips and taking people to hospital appointments to gardening.

But the service, which helps people who have difficulty using public transport, including the elderly, the disabled and busy mothers, is now appealing for more volunteers to help cope with demand.

Link treasurer Mary Gray said the group is also looking for co-ordinators, who work from home and match job requests from the public with the most appropriate volunteer.

"The work of Link is very important in the area," she said. "It's an invaluable service and very rewarding. But there is always someone away, so

we need more cover across the

community."

The scheme was founded six years ago and covers the parishes of Bremhill, Calne Without, Cherhill, Compton Bassett, Heddington and Hilmarton.

Volunteers must be aged over 18, but do not have to have any particular skills. They are entitled to claim expenses.

Link is funded by donations from users who are invited to make a donation for the service provided, in an envelope. There are also contributions from North Wilts District Council and Calne Town Council.
