Ref. 27946-36THE next generation of Ringo Starrs got on the beat with their new musical instruments this week, paid for by cash from a drum marathon.
Swindon music teachers Paul Ashman and Andy Wraight took a workshop at Tick Tock Playgroup in Wroughton.
About 15 youngsters aged from two to four explored the sounds of bongos, gathering drums, djembes, conga drums and hand-held percussion instruments, such as lollipop drums and shakers.
"They are good sounding drums and very colourful which is ideal for a playgroup,'' said Paul.
Last summer the drummers and 16 of their students performed a 48-hour drum marathon in aid of eight local charities and the Swindon Young Musicians.
They scooped £5,500 in all with £360 going to eight local charities. These included the playgroup, while £1,800went to the Swindon Young Musicians.
Paul said: "We wanted to give them more musical instruments with which to teach. It helps team building, rhythm and co-ordination.''
