Calne design consultant Nick Belson, who lost his son to cot death, has inspired a baby calendar to raise money for an infant death charity.

Illustrators from around the world have contributed to the calendar and all the proceeds will go to the Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths (FSID) that works to prevent infant deaths and to promote baby health.

The calendar, called Baby Firsts,

depicts the milestones in a baby's first year, including the first step, the first toy, the first day out and the first word.

Mr Belson works at Origin Design studios in Maundrell Road, Calne, which has won national business awards for creativity.

He chose to support FSID after he and his wife Caroline lost their son, Samuel, to cot death nearly 20 years ago. Baby Firsts is dedicated to Samuel's memory.

Illustrator Nick Diggory, who represents 40 international illustrators, has contributed his own pictures as well as those from illustrators in Australia, the Netherlands, Argentina and the UK. Each month reflects the individual artist's interpretation of the first year of life. The images are described as amusing, colourful and beautifully executed with supporting text offering sensible advice to parents

"We wanted to do something a bit different for 2004 and Baby Firsts is a true original," said Mr Belson.

"It's also refreshing that people are still willing to donate their time, effort and skills to a worthy cause. The result is something we can all be proud of. We hope people will also support the FSID by buying it and enjoying it."

Baby Firsts is being sold for £5 at Oliver Tomkins Infant and Nursery School, Toothill, Swindon (01793) 870471, through Origin Design (01249) 822688 or via email: info@origindesign.co.uk
