WINGER Frankie Coleman scored twice and set one up as Corsham Town cruised to victory against local rivals Larkhall Athletic.

Both sides struggled early on to cope with the greasy conditions, and Corsham had to wait until deep into the second half before they were able to put the game beyond Larkhall's reach.

Corsham's 3 0 win takes the team's tally to four back to back victories, and moved them up to seventh place in the league table.

Manager Colin Bush paid tribute to his young side, which he said weathered a difficult start to the season, but has now started to gel.

"In the last four games we've had a lot more steel about us," he said. "If we're still in the game after an hour I believe we will go on and win the game.

"They had an excellent start to their season and had won five, drawn five and until we played them only lost one.

"They play some good football, but once we adapted to how they played they didn't have any answer.

"The pitch was soft, but we have a strong team and coped better with the heavier pitch.

I always feel that if you've got a big, strong side in this league you will get results."

But it was not until the final quarter that Corsham killed off Larkhall when Coleman, who was a constant menace on the right flank, rounded off a superb personnel performance with a 20-minute purple patch.

Bush changed his tactics for the home game to a 4-4-1-1 formation, giving pacey striker Alan Griffin licence to roam behind front man Jamie Harrison.

His game plan worked well as Corsham stifled Larkhall's efforts to spread the ball wide, before taking the lead in the 22nd minute.

Larkhall conceded a free kick on the edge of the area for a foul on Jamie Harrison.

The shot was cleared, but fell to Coleman who shot through a crowded penalty area to score in the top corner.

Griffin's attacking runs from deep created problems in Larkhall's defence and in the 33rd minute he raced forward after intercepting a pass on the halfway line, but his shot went over the crossbar.

Minutes later he sprinted onto a perfectly weighted through ball from Captain Nigel Curtis, and flashed a shot across the goalmouth, but it was just wide.

The second half followed a similar pattern to the first, with Larkhall exerting the early pressure on Corsham's defence.

As the game continued Corsham started to take control, and Larkhall keeper Brendon Dix did well to keep out a strike from Coleman and Russell Lodge's fierce header from a corner kick.

But the game was all about Coleman in the final 20 minutes.

In the 70th minute he attacked down the right, beating one defender before cutting into the penalty area and crossing for the unmarked Dave Kilmurray to power in a shot from close range.

The flying winger struck again five minutes from time when he won possession on the edge of the area before turning and burying the ball in the back of the net.

Praising Coleman's star performance Bush, said: "He's got a good attitude and nothing phases him.

"By his own standards he hasn't had a great start to the season, but on Saturday he was back to his flying best.

"I thought we were a bit fortunate to be up 1-0 at half-time, but it gave us something to hold onto.

"We knew they were going to pass it around a lot, but we were confident we could win if we kept our shape and put pressure on their full backs.

"I said at the start of the season our aim was to turn this club around and that's still our intention. We wanted to get the feel good factor going about the team and make it a club, which players want to come to, and we're getting there.

"We have a lot of 18, 19, 20 year old players in the team, which is great for the future and I will also be looking to give more youngsters a taste of first team action on the bench."

Corsham Town will travel to Ilfracombe on Saturday for their next match, which will kick off at 2.15pm.
