ONE of three new Deputy Lieutenants of Wiltshire named this week is Marlborough solicitor William Wyldbore-Smith.
Mr Wyldbore-Smith, who lives at Bremhill, is a partner in the Wood Awdry and Ford practice in Kingsbury Street and was previously with Wood and Awdry in Chippenham.
The other new deputy lieutenants are Sara Jones CBE from Great Wishford near Salisbury her husband was posthumously awarded the VC after being killed in the Falklands War and Lord Margadale of Islay from Tisbury.
The deputies help the Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire Sir Maurice Johnson in his work as the Queen's representative in the county.
Mr Wyldbore-Smith has been Under Sheriff of the county since 1987, a role that involves the enforcement of High Court orders within Wiltshire.
He said he regarded his appointment as a deputy lieutenant as an honour.
He said: "It is a very special county award and I am very pleased."
His wife Prisca qualified as a barrister and their daughter Philippa is working towards becoming a solicitor.
Mr Wyldbore-Smith was born in Kent but feels at home in Wiltshire. He was educated at Marlborough College and said he was delighted that he had returned to the town to be involved in one of its oldest practices.
He lists his hobbies as gardening and country sports.
Previously he was chairman of the former North Wiltshire Enterprise Agency and the Wiltshire Rural Enterprise Agency before they were merged into the Great Western Enterprise, of which he was a director for a year.
Mr Wyldbore-Smith served as a board member of the Wiltshire and Bath Health Authority for two years.
Currently he is a board member of Youth Action Wiltshire and vice president of the Gloucestershire and Wiltshire Law Society.
