CHIPPENHAM SUNDAY LEAGUE: THE top of the table battle between Box Rovers and Sherston Town was postponed by leaders Sherston, due to them having eight players playing for Malmesbury Town in the Arthur Shipway Cup.
Winsley's ninth loss of the campaign leaves them pointless and rock bottom, local rivals Dog & Fox Ashley were the latest team to turn them over by virtue of a 7-0 win. Mark Gerrish started the ball rolling when he netted on 13 minutes, Steve Roddy added number two in the 38th and 43rd minutes. Further second half goals from Dan Cottrell, Steve Latham, Ricky Trott and Roddy who completed his treble with the Dog's 7th took the goals Winsley have conceded in nine outings to 63.
Calne Town (Sunday) played the whole game against Westbury Rangers A with only ten players and despite trailing just 1-0 at the interval eventually ran out 4-0 losers, Marc Lanfear (3) and Sam Tucker scored for Rangers who are now in fourthth place.
Bradford News defeated All Cannings FC 5-2 to move into the top half of the table. Richard Holman's opener for Cannings' was cancelled out by debutant Andy Bennett's delightful chip from 18 yards. Canning's next attack saw Tony Greenidge fire the visitors to Bradford back in front. After the break the Newsmen shone and further goals from Bennett, Russell Francis (2) and Jake Davison ensured that Canning's left Trowbridge Road pointless for the first time.
Reigning champions The Duke Corsham returned to winning ways. After defeats in their previous two outings, They saw off Hullavington 3-1 after Craig Samuel's left foot strike from 20 yards had given the villagers the lead. Sustained pressure in the second half paid off for the Duke with Dave Kilmurray heading them level. Kilmurray was on target again to give the Duke the advantage and only a couple of excellent saves from their keeper Craig Chaplin denied Darren Legg an equalizer. Youngster Chris Andrews sealed the Duke win in the dying moments with his first goal for the club in his first full 90 minutes of football.
Division One
MAUD Heath Sports continue to head the division after their 4-1 victory against Chippenham Sports & Social Club maintained their perfect record of eight wins from eight.
Ben Devon (2), Simon Hillier and Dave Beal goals made up Maud Heath's quartet with Darren Whiston replying for the Chippenham side .
Work commitments forced Chippenham Police into fielding a weakened team against a superior Biddestone Social side.
Biddestone ran out comfortable 7-0 winners. Biddestone's recent signing Matt Pratley set them on their way with two goals in a minute and though the score was only 2-0 at the intermission Biddestone laid siege to the Police's goal after the break with Pratley adding two more. Jamie Lyons, Paul Poiner and Eddie Drury who headed home goal number six which was his first goal in over 100 appearances, completed the seven.
Semington Rovers' championship hopes are slowly slipping away as they suffered defeat number three of the season against the Horse & Groom. They lost 5-2. James Eatough struck to level for Rovers after Paul Aland had put the Horse in front. Paul Bendell made it 2-1 to the Horse and when Bendell produced a glorious finish from 18 yards to move the score to 3-1 the game looked all but over for Rovers. Dan Phillips gave Rovers a glimmer of hope of getting back into the game when he halved the deficit, but it proved to be a false hope as Paul Daly and Graham Hunter saw the Horse home.
The George Lacock hit back from 3-1 down to claim a thrilling 4-3 win over Colerne FC. Goals from Andy Harker (2) and Richard Smart looked as if Colerne were on course to do the league double over the George. Richard Nash, Neil Parrish and Tim Culling's goals pulled the George level and it was left to veteran Andy Joad to grab their winner ten minutes from time.
Trowbridge Harriers were unable to field a full team for their game with West End Wanderers, but despite the handicap of being a man short for the whole game they fought out a 3-3 draw.
John Baker was on target to give the Harriers a great start only for Tom Staddon to fire Wanderers level. Baker regained the lead for Harriers before teammate Paul Edwards had a penalty saved by Wanderers keeper Martin Salter and a goal disallowed. Kai Miller and James Taylor struck for the Wanderers to edge them 3-2 ahead and just as time was running out Harriers James Dowd pounced in a crowded area to knock the ball home.
Atworth United and Wingfield served up a seven-goal thriller which the latter won 4-3.
Division Two
VICTORIES for the three leading clubs in the second division means that Corsham Centre, North Star A and North Bradley are starting to pull away from the chasing pack.
Corsham Centre had to turn in one of their best displays of the season to overcome Biddestone Arms. James Lye and Craig Gingell both hit doubles for the Centre with Gingell's first an exquisite finish from 18 yards.
North Star A go into Sunday's top of the table clash with Corsham Centre on a high after they brushed aside the challenge of Sutton Benger 8-1 to stay in second spot. Mike Palfrey, Mark Sharrett and Tommy Ludford helped themselves to two apiece with Stuart Riely and Paul Taylor adding the others. Paul Watson was Benger's scorer.
On a pitch that was more suited for ducks it was North Bradley that drove Holt quackers as they put a huge dent in their hosts'promotion hopes while at the same time enhancing theirs with a fine 4-2 win.
Second half goals from Tim Knight and Royston Aust earned Spencer Sports a 2-0 victory over Steeple Ashton (Sunday).
Goals from Sean Harvey (pen), Steve Bruce and Martin Hemmens were good enough to give Blue Circle Saints both points from their 3-2 win over Somerford FC.
Division Three
COOPER Avon's match with Bradstone Rovers at the Conigre, Melksham, became the first game to be postponed due a waterlogged pitch.
Potterne FC and Hare & Hounds lead the chase to catch Four Seasons and Parsons Nose. Hare & Hounds completed the league double over Corsham Park Rangers who they beat 2-0 last weekend, this week's 5-1 win being a little more convincing.
Tim Wootton was the Hounds man of the match, scoring two and setting up the other three for Gary Wootton, Leigh Wells and Nathan Cook to score his first of the season. This came after Gordon Willshire put Rangers ahead.
Potterne FC heaped more misery on Westbury Rangers B with a 3-0 win over Rangers now means that last term's division four winners have lost sic of their eight games. Ben Giles and two from Johnny Emm saw Potterne home.
Leaders Four Seasons were no match for Sir Audley's Arms who lost 7-1. Marcus Young led with three, Paul Maddox, Kevin Banks, Steve Hunt and an own goal made up the tally.
The Melksham derby between Parsons Nose and Pig & Whistle United went the way of the former who defeated the United 3-2.
Division Four
THE long-awaited contest between two of the leading sides in division four , Kings Arms (Trowbridge) and Virgin Mobile was postponed due to the Kings Arms home pitch at Seymour Road, Trowbridge being waterlogged.
The postponement gave third-placed FC Bradford the opportunity to leapfrog Virgin and claim second spot. Despite their convincing 7-1 victory over North Star B they still remain behind the Kings Arms who stay in pole position with a better goal difference than the Bradford boys.
Fascia Graphics put up a really good performance before losing to a Glyn Pascoe goal as Pack Horse Rangers claimed a narrow 1-0 win.
White Horse FC defeated Rowde 6-2, Lee Morgan and Phillip Crew's goals for Rowde counted for nothing as goals from Chris Sims (2), Paul Harvey, Mike Harding, Mark Pugh and Andy Harding sent the Horse well clear of the wooden spoon spot.
After heavy defeats for both KSM and Plough last week both teams were battling for their own piece of glory and it was KSM who emerged victorious with a 4-1 victory. Kevin Henderson opened the scoring for KSM. Phil Watts made it 2-0 with an excellent strike from 25 yards. Although Craig Ryder reduced the arrears for the Plough, goals from Mark Bolton and Andy Strange sealed the win for KSM.
Bear Casuals led 2-0 against Old Road Tavern thanks to a stylish double from Chris Bishop. One of them was a great diving header that saw them take the lead.
Tavern hit back in style to lead 6-2 at the break with Rick Lovenburry's header starting their recovery. Gavin Aplin scored direct from a corner to tie the scores and the same player tapped home to put Tavern ahead.
Pete Smith crashed home from 20 yards and Aplin completed his fine treble before Tavern's player/manager John Chivers netted his first of the season to move the score to 6-2. Smith made it 7-2 with his second of the game and it was left to Neil Raynon to completed the eight with a volley from 35 yards out. Lee Jackson headed the Bear's third.
