A STRATEGIC development brief to pave the way for a new school and sporting facilities in Devizes will go up for public consultation shortly.
The inspector who presided over the Kennet District Local Plan inquiry called on Kennet District Council to produce a Devizes strategic development brief.
Among the facilities planned for Devizes over the next eight years is a new primary school on greenfield land next to Quakers Walk.
The brief proposes that the school provides facilities for community groups to use. Play areas are also earmarked for Quakers Walk, and within the North Gate, Wharf and Devizes Hospital development area.
A community building is planned either next to the new cadet headquarters at Le Marchant Barracks or elsewhere in London Road.
Transport schemes proposed include a residents' parking scheme for New Park Road, resurfacing of Quakers Walk footpath to benefit walkers and cyclists, a pedestrian crossing on London Road by Le Marchant Barracks and improvements to the number 49 bus service between Devizes, Swindon and Trowbridge.
