BANDMASTER Ray Clark bowed out after 42 years leading the Salvation Army's Chippenham Corps with a rousing musical flourish.
The bandleader was joined by former bandsmen for a nostalgic concert at the Citadel in Foghamshire.
Mr Clark, 73, of Deansway, Chippenham, started his band career at the age of seven. He was commissioned as bandmaster in 1961.
Five generations of Mr Clark's family have played in the band. His grandfather, George Tinson, was a founder member when the band was set up 117 years ago.
His father Herbert played in the band and his son Peter, his daughter-in-law Suzanne and grandsons, Stuart, 16, and Daniel, 13, are in the Corps.
"I've had a wonderful career with the Corps, but I don't intend to give it up entirely," said Mr Clark.
"I was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease last year, but I am finding the treatment I am on very helpful and I still hope to be able to keep an eye on and a hand in the band."
He said he intends to relax a little, but also coach his grandsons as they continue to play with the band.
Mr Clark has been made a life member of the National Association of Brass Band Conductors.
