FEARS that an application to burn recycled liquid fuel in Westbury is being mishandled were due to be raised in the House of Commons yesterday.

The Environment Agency is expected to reveal a decision on the bid to use RLF at Lafarge cement works in January.

West Wiltshire MP Andrew Murrison has challenged ministers on the issue.

Dr Murrison said: "There are great fears for many people that this application could lead to a back door incinerator."

The MP is pressing for rigorous monitoring during any trial that is permitted.

He said: "If the Environment Agency recommends that the French-owned Lafarge is allowed to use the waste material, it is likely that much of it will be imported from the continent."

The Environment Agency is studying reports by health bosses before reaching agreement on the trial.
