A CAMPAIGN to bring broadband internet services to Wroughton is just 35 would-be subscribers from success.
Campaigners have secured the pledges of 265 people that they would sign up for broadband service if it were made available by BT.
BT says it will be willing to provide the necessary hardware and cabling if 300 would-be subscribers can be found. Broadband connections make for internet access many times more rapid and efficient than conventional links.
This is vital in linking to everything from games to live video coverage of events, as well as downloading large files.
However, BT says the technology is so expensive to make available that it is only willing to take the step if it can expect a sufficient amount of interest at the location concerned.
This is why it has set target levels of potential users such as the one operating in Wroughton.
The broadband campaign there is being run by John Forster-Heatlie of Thorney Park. He said: "My friends and I have had a campaign running now for over two years, and have at last almost reached the required number."
People can pre-register directly via www.bt.com. Alternatively, they can find further information at the campaign's own website, which is at www.getonandgetit.co.uk/wroughtonbb/
