FROM Thursday residents in Warminster will be able to convey their concerns to district council staff without leaving the town.

West Wiltshire District Council has set up a new service in the town so residents can raise queries with staff face to face as well as using telephone and computer links with the council's main office in Trowbridge.

The 'one-stop shop' is housed in the building used by the Citizens' Advice Bureau and Shopmobility in the central car park.

It will initially be open on Thursdays, from 10am to 3pm, but this could be extended if the pilot scheme proves a success.

The shop could also feature services such as the Department for Work and Pensions, Wiltshire County Council and housing.

It is hoped the new facility will be more convenient for residents in the town.

Ian Gillbanks, of Portway Lane, Warminster, said: "I am for it because it's hard for people like pensioners to have to go all the way to Trowbridge."

Cllr Roy While, the district council's corporate portfolio holder, said: "Our recent review of how we deliver services showed that people living in Warminster can feel disconnected from us, because of the distance between the town and Trowbridge.

"If the service is well received, we will look to extend it early next year."
