For every pound spent on Lottery tickets in the UK, 28p goes to good causes.
When it comes to the distribution of Lottery money, the Department of Culture, Media and Sport is ultimately in control of where the money goes.
Charities, community groups and clubs can apply for grants from any of the distributors.
They can apply as many times as they like but each time they must enter a different proposal.
Funds come from a variety of sources according to the nature of the request.
The Arts Council, the Film Council, the Heritage Lottery Fund and Sport England are just a few of the groups involved.
If you are looking for National Lottery funding go to www.lotterygoodcauses.co.uk This will direct you to the most appropriate lottery distributor.
