THE BODY of a man described as vulnerable by police was found in a pond outside the Great Western Hospital yesterday.

The 51-year-old local man is believed to be Paul Holmes. He discharged himself from the hospital on Wednesday.

Police were said to be concerned for his safety after this incident, but did not know of his whereabouts.

It is believed that he drowned yesterday afternoon.

The last time Great Western Hospital hit the headlines over a missing person was in December last year. A stroke victim disappeared shortly after being admitted to the hospital.

Pensioner Catherine Sutherland was later found trapped in a dark store cupboard 24 hours later.

Specialist teams with tracker dogs had combed the area surrounding the hospital when the patient went missing.

She had collapsed outside the BHS store in Swindon town centre from a suspected stroke.

Sniffer dogs found her in the cupboard. She had been without food or water.
