A 24-13 win over Oakmedians left Chippenham in seventh heaven in South West Two East.

The result was the Allington Field side's seventh win in succession as, despite awful conditions, both sides produced a good game of rugby.

Chippenham were the first to open the scoring after 13 minutes with a superb individual try from David Spiers.

He virtually stole the ball from Darren McMillan, beating four defenders in the process and sprinted 40 metres to score an unconverted try.

Oakmedians replied with a penalty, but Spiers was instrumental in the next try for the home side.

Tying up the defence, he released winger Darren McMillen who sprinted from the halfway line to score another unconverted try.

The pack soon got in on the act, prop Jim Pratt scoring at the back of an excellent driving maul.

The conversion was kicked by Dan Reynolds and gave Chippenham a comfortable 17-3 lead at the break.

Oakmedians responded with a try in the second period, but Reynolds then chipped the ball over the top which was chased by Spiers and Grant Trewartha.

Spiers got there first, gathered the ball well and released replacement centre Trewartha to score, Reynolds converting.

Oakmeadians scored a second late on, but it was merely a consolation.

Coach John Rumble said: "I felt our forwards played out of their skins against a well-organised powerful Oakmeadians pack.''
