ANDY KING has called on his players to examine their individual job descriptions, stop shooting themselves in the foot, and ensure that dented play-off hopes do not become dashed dreams.
The Town boss was furious after Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Hartlepool United and the away dressing room door remained firmly shut for almost an hour after the final whistle for a frank post-mortem.
King put across his view before inviting his troops to air their opinions.
He said: "It's a black and white situation as far as I'm concerned.
"I think it is about individuals doing their job correctly or me putting other individuals there to do it whether that's a change in personnel or in a particular situation on the pitch.
"But the fact is you do your job correctly or you don't do it all.
"It's something I have to look at as a manager. You get paid to do a job of work. I find it that simple to analyse.
"I know what my job is. I know what happens if I lose the next 10 games. They start calling for my head.
"Players also have to take responsibility. To achieve something we need to be stronger and more disciplined.
"As well as discipline we need consistency. We didn't have it at Hartlepool and we haven't had it in the time I've been at this football club.
"I thought we'd overcome it in recent weeks but it's come back to bite us again."
With just over half the season remaining, King knows there is still time to put matters right.
He said: "I'm disappointed and annoyed but I'm not in despair if you like. I'm just disappointed that all the dreams you have get dented. And we dent them ourselves rather than having the opposition do it.
"Even during the bad run we had, I felt it was us rather than the quality of the opposition.
"I maintain this is the strongest team and squad I've had in my time at this football club but it isn't about what you know, it's about what you do."
Town's reserves are back in action this week when they travel to Wycombe Wanderers on Wednesday night for a Pontins Holiday Combination Cup clash.
The match at Adams Park kicks off at 6.30pm.
