STEVE WHITE is contemplating a playing comeback.

The 44-year-old Chippenham Town boss has revealed that he has signed a playing registration form.

"It is welcome to the management hot-seat," said new manager White.

"We are very short of bodies at the moment so I have signed a form.

"We had seven players out with injuries on Saturday against Basingstoke, then had Danny Bailey stretchered off in the first five minutes.

"Adie Mings cried off before the game and then Martin Paul suffered a calf strain near the end.

"Plus we had a guy sent-off in the second-half I think the ref just wanted to level it up as they were already down to 10 men.

"But we scored a late goal to force a deserved draw.

"It is a difficult time for the club as we only have 11 fit players for the replay.

"I wouldn't be able to play in the replay anyway as it takes a week for a registration in the trophy to be approved.

"However, I am only thinking about playing again in an emergency.

"But if Jimmy Quinn is still playing in the Conference League and scoring, I am sure I could cope as well if necessary."

A dramatic equaliser deep in injury time from Nathan Edwards earned Chippenham a 1-1 draw with Basingstoke and another shot at the Ryman League side tomorrow night.

A strong run from Scott Walker ended with Gareth Davies hooking the ball across goal.

Charlie Griffin chested it down and Edwards scuffed shot trickled over the line.

It was no more than the Bluebirds deserved.

They had gone behind as early as the 18th minute, but then fought back well.

Paul and Griffin both missed chances in the first half.

And in the second White pushed Davies forward in the last 15 minutes in search of an equaliser.

And their pressure finally paid-off in injury time.

"The boys did well," said White after his debut match as Bluebirds' boss.

"I was delighted with them in the first-half and we played some high-tempo stuff.

"We had three or four good chances but they scored a scrappy goal against the run of play.

"However, we pulled out the stops and Gareth Davies, who moved up front and had a great game, rescued matters for us.

"We deserved to get something out of the game and have arrested the losing run.

"It is not going to be easy here to turn matters around, but I am relishing the challenge of getting Chippenham away from the bottom of the league table."
