VOLUNTEERS are being called to join a Great Western Community Forest tree planting and activity session along the Hreod Burna Brook.

It will be held on Saturday between 11am and 4pm.

Representatives of the community forest project will be on hand to guide volunteers in planting seedlings, clearing junk and litter and planting hedges.

Project spokeswoman Alison Bruce said: "Fun activities for families include face painting and environmental art and craft activities such as making bird feeders.

"There will also be guided walks around the Moredon Arboretum, and hot soup and jacket potatoes to warm people up after their hard work.

"It will be a fun day of free activities for all the family."

Volunteers are urged to wear warm clothing and stout footwear.

Limited car parking will be available along Akers Way, but the organisers say it would be better if people were able to cycle or walk to the site.

A free minibus service will run between the tree planting site and the sites of the various other activities.
