Swindon recruitment specialist, Blue Arrow, has issued a call to action for qualified drivers to help local haulage companies deliver and receive goods in time for Christmas.
The closing month of the year is one of the busiest times of the year for the logistics industry, but despite 80 per cent of domestic freight being carried by road, the sector continues to suffer from a shortage of drivers. Consequently, Blue Arrow is recruiting now for a number of local vacancies covering day and night shifts.
Paula Miller, driving consultant for Blue Arrow's Swindon branch explained: "With consumers planning to spend more than £800 each on Christmas this year, distributive industries are under huge pressure to meet supply chain demands. There simply aren't enough professional drivers to go round."
She continued: "Meeting local needs, we are calling for drivers who have perhaps been working reduced hours or are looking to earn extra money for Christmas."

Earlier this year, Karen Teal of Recruitment Employment Services went ape (see picture, left ) in a bid to recruit lorry drivers, because of a shortage in the town.
