ON November 27, my wife was discharged from the Great Western Hospital.
After reading in your letters column the constant criticisms of the service the hospital provides I thought readers would like to share our experience.
From the moment I rang for an ambulance at 3.30am on November 7 until Pam was discharged her treatment could not have been better. The person that answered the emergency call was so calm and reassuring, the extremely efficient ambulance crew, the emergency and accident unit literally sprang into action for a quick diagnosis.
Pam was then transferred to the acute assessment centre for further tests and at all times I was kept informed of what was happening. Pam was eventually transferred to the new Swindon Intermediate Care Centre and what a wonderful and caring unit this is.
Our message to all the staff is well done, our sincere thanks to each and everyone of you, keep doing what you know best and Swindon will have a hospital that will be the envy of many other towns.
Perhaps some of the critics would do well to experience the hospital and emergency service given in some other countries where they check your purse before your pulse.
Pam and Derek Benfield
Mayor and Mayoress of Swindon
