FIFTY-TWO teams, including 15 from Wiltshire, representing a total of ten counties formed the magnificent entry for the open fours, competing for the Warman's Holidays Short Mat Trophy.
Run in its traditional and popular format, with teams being drawn into eight groups and playing five games each during the course of the day, a maximum points score was the obvious target for everyone.
Indeed, six teams achieved this with five wins, the result being decided by a countback to the number of ends won, with Wiltshire's Seend team narrowly gaining the win in a hotly-contested fight.
Results: Seend (John Sevens), 10pts, 25 ends won; Crossway, Dorset (Larry House), 10 pts, 24 ends won; Chalford, Gloucester (Tony Wheeler), 10 pts, 23 ends won; Canvey Island, Essex (John Simpkins), 10 pts, 22 ends won; Sanguine, Essex (Don Pammant), 10pts, 22 ends won; Blue Circle, (David Polglaze), 10 pts, 20 ends won.
