SALISBURY City made it four wins out of four in the league since their FA Cup exit at Hills-borough, but manager Nick Holmes was far from happy with his side's 3-1 victory over a Dartford side reduced to ten men on the half-hour mark.

Whites, so often slow starters this term, were again a goal down when Steve Mariner headed home on 19 minutes.

But recent signing Craig Davis put them back on level terms inside two minutes with his first for the club since joining from Bashley, when he curled a free kick around the Dartford wall.

Ted Ansell was harshly shown a red card for a challenge on Adam Wallace on 31 minutes.

Holmes said: "It was a strange one. It was the only card of the game and I think most of us thought it only warranted a yellow."

City failed to make their advantage tell although Davis was denied a second when the referee's assistant ruled him offside following a neat move involving Stuart James and Wallace.

Ten minutes after the break, City took the lead for the first time when Wayne Turk's cross from the right was volleyed past Jimmy Simpson from the edge of the box.

Matt Tubbs gave the home side a two-goal cushion on 65 minutes following another fine pass by James.

Holmes added: "It was a real bitty performance. It's frustrating that we have to go a goal down to make things happen. I don't know why it happens so often to us - it drives you potty.

"The conditions were excellent considering the weather. We scored three very good goals but it would have been nice to win by more. We've had one disallowed, have hit the woodwork and their 'keeper's made a good stop."

Although delighted his side had made it 12 points from a possible 12 during the month of Novem-ber, Holmes would have preferred to have seen his charges put Dartford to the sword.

"It's great when winning becomes a habit, but sometimes you have to win with a bit of purpose and it'd be nice to improve our goal difference. I thought we had a chance to do that on Saturday but we didn't take it."

The victory took Salisbury up to sixth in the table.

Striker Sam Allison, who has failed to command a regular first team place for the Whites, has signed for Dr Martens Premier Division strugglers Chippenham Town.

The club holds a race night at the Sarum Suite this evening from 7pm. Admission is free.

A plant sale will also take place at the club on Sunday, December 21 from 10am. Ring 01722 326454 for more details on these events.
