TRADING Standards officers at Wiltshire County Council have successfully prosecuted Bradford and Bingley Plc under the Property Misdescriptions Act 1991.
The company was fined £3,500 and ordered to pay £1,400 costs by magistrates on Monday.
At the hearing the company pleaded guilty to ten offences under the act.
The court was told the Chippenham branch of Bradford and Bingley Estate Agency made statements in a property particulars leaflet, indicating that the windows in nine rooms of the advertised property were constructed of sealed unit double glazing. In fact, all of the windows were single glazed.
When the new owners realised the property was misdescribed, they complained to Wiltshire County Council Trading Standards Service.
Trading Standards officers found the estate agency had not been following company procedures and although this had been identified by the company's inspection team, adequate steps had not been taken to prevent false statements being made.
