But the proposed £40 compulsory ID card is not necessarily good news.
Smart cards could contain your employer, salary, savings, marriages, not to mention your inside leg and bust measurements.
Do we really want that information in the hands of a newly qualified police constable? Dixon of Dock Green will be turn- ing in his grave.
I really can't understand why so many of us are queuing up to support an ID card scheme which may not even work in practice?
