A WOMAN was seriously injured and the A346 was blocked at Chiseldon services after a two-car crash at the Liddington crossroads.

The accident is the latest in a long history of crashes on the notorious stretch of road, which has claimed nine lives in eight years.

The 34-year-old woman from Marlborough was cut free from her Vauxhall Tigra by the fire brigade and taken to Great Western Hospital.

She suffered pelvic injuries which were said not to be life threatening. Her condition later stabilised.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to yesterday's accident, which they believe happened after the Tigra pulled out of the Liddington junction into the path of a Vauxhall Vectra.

The driver of the Vectra was unhurt but his male passenger was badly bruised.

Motorists reported foggy conditions in the area at the time of the accident at 10.30am.

The road was blocked for three hours and traffic was diverted off the highway in both directions, causing long tailbacks.
