THE 2003 Poppy Appeal has been a great year for Calne and District branch RBL.
May I congratulate all the collectors that took the time and trouble to go out and spend a few hours either knocking on doors or standing at static points around the town, without your help and dedication the Royal British Legion wouldn't be able to so many Ex-Service men and women, along with their dependants.
May I also take this opportunity to thank all the congregations, in all the Calne and District province Churches, who donated to the Poppy Appeal, they have all been sent thank you letters which will be displayed in the appropriate place, for all to see.
The amazing total collected this year is £8,547.86. Of which the villages collected: Hilmarton, £228.98; Bremhill, £ 115.58; Calstone £226.84; Yatesbury £ 35.56; Compton Bassett, £116.67; Cherhill , £ 229.70 and Derry Hill £ 549.82.
The collectors' get together at the Conservative Club on November 27 was a success, everyone enjoyed the evening and the raffle totalled £40.00.
The awards for long service presented, including a five year certificate to Helen Toze, a 35 year bar for Mrs Goff and a 40 year service bar for Mary Hutchings.
Bill Vince received his 30 year medal plus the 35, 40, 45 and 50 year service bars. Mrs Maundrell received a 55 year service bar.
Please remember we still need collectors, help if you can.
