YOUNGSTERS at Cheverell Old School Nursery have been plumbing the depths for their Christmas play.
The three and four-year-olds together with staff are starring in the play called Submerged.
The play has been written by the staff and is the highlight of the term's work on the sea.
It has a cast of almost 40 children and features plenty of nautical songs and stunning scenery.
The story is set under the sea inside a submarine.
Everyone living under the sea is invited to take part in a strength challenge, a beauty challenge and a singing challenge to win the hand of the mermaid Angelica.
Rhona Welham, principal of the nursery, said the children were looking forward to performing the play.
Mrs Welham said: "The children have learned the play quicker than the staff. We have got some of the best singers we have ever had and all the children are keen and can't wait to perform it.
"The play links in to what the children have learned this term.
"They have learned an amazing amount and they can identify different sharks and whales."
The play is being performed today and tomorrow to parents and friends of the school.
The Gazette is going to be producing a supplement featuring nativity productions.
