I WOULD like to add my voice to the many that are appalled at the pathetic, insular, self-serving behaviour of some of the shopkeepers in Malmesbury concerning the Sunday Market.
The fact that shops such as the Fromagerie can be instrumental in the market's closure on the grounds that it represents unfair competition is beneath contempt. How can any of the shops which are open six days a week possibly be threatened by a market open for five hours a week? Or is it the quality of what's on offer that these traders are afraid of?
Until now I've always made sure I regularly shop locally as I've been keen to support them. Now, however, I will make a point of boycotting all shops that have bulldozed (or did you go willingly?) the council into acting in such an appallingly undemocratic manner. Shame on you all.
