LAVERSTOCK & Ford's six-match un-beaten run came to an end on Saturday when they lost 2-1 away at in-form Overton United.

The Salisbury outfit dominated the first half against the side promoted with them from last season's Division Two, but a shot put wide by Nick Newman and a long range effort by Graham Mankin which skimmed the bar, was the nearest they came to scoring.

Overton almost took the lead shortly after the interval but as players tired in the heavy ground, more chances opened up.

Toby Giles was denied when the United 'keeper saved well with his feet, and the custodian was equally alert to push a Dom Male shot out for a corner.

Overton took the lead on the counter attack when Laverstock lost possession in their opponents' half.

A speculative shot was deflected past a rooted Liam McConnell.

Overton doubled the lead following another swift break.

Male headed home a Giles corner with 15 minutes to go to set up a frantic finale.

Laverstock continued to press, but their hosts were now content to play down the clock.

Graham Mankin forced the United 'keeper to make yet another fine save, tipping the ball over the bar after a precise delivery from Wykes.

It was their last chance to draw level and their unbeaten run, which stretched back to September 13, was over.

On Saturday, 'Stock, who are now sixth in the table, entertain third placed Clanfield, 2pm.

The club's reserves visit Fleet Spurs in a Hampshire Combination fixture.
