VETERAN actor Sir John Mills and Oscar winner Jim Broadbent are supporting a Christmas appeal to keep a talking books service for the blind running.
The campaign by the Royal National Institute of the Blind, aims to raise £3.3million to fund and increase the scheme, which has the largest collection of unabridged audio books in the UK.
The Adver reported recently how Talking Books provides a lifeline for local blind or partially-sighted people, even though 95 per cent of all books are never made available in audio or large print format.
RNIB appeals manager John Harvey said: "Many people are surprisedTalking Books are provided by a charity reliant on voluntary income.
"We need the support this Christmas £20 will help to fund the transfer of one Talking Book onto digital format or enable us to send out 20 digital Talking Books to one member."
