A BLIND ex-soldier travelled from Stoke on Trent to Warminster to receive a cheque for charity.

Captain Dave Stuttard picked up £150 on behalf of St Dunstan's, a charity caring for blind ex-servicemen, during a ceremony at the Land Warfare Centre in Imber Road.

Fourteen charities shared £2,950 raised at last month's Army-organised bonfire event.

Among them was Lt Col (retired) Bob Boothroyd who collected £250 for the British Limbless Ex-Servicemen's Association.

Warminster organisations to receive cheques included Warminster MENCAP (£450) and the Wessex MS Therapy Centre (£400). Disabled shopping service Shopmobility picked up £200 while the 7th Warminster Brownies, the 3rd Wiltshire Baden Powell Scouts, the garrison crche and the Metallica Twirlers each received £50. The final cheque for £300 went towards the Mayor's Charitable Fund.
