I BELIEVE that ID cards are very necessary in our country today even though many of us already have several means of identity such as passports, driving licences and bank cards.

The simple reason we need them is because we do not know the identity of many thousands of people living here who already enjoy the benefits of our generous welfare society.

While the card itself may appear to be expensive to produce, it should prevent much fraud and time wasting as well as being helpful to our police force.

I do not think there is anything to fear from it so let's go for it.
