A CHURCH in Melksham has been allowed to hold meetings in the town hall again after an investigation into licensing laws.
The town council was forced to stop the Good News Church meetings two years ago following an application to use the building for civil wedding ceremonies.
Licensing laws were interpreted to mean no religious meeting could take place on the premises, but after investigating the wording of the legislation, the decision was revoked.
The church held a celebration meeting in the town hall on Wednesday and will begin regular morning meetings on Sunday.
Pastor John Firth said: "We are grateful to Lowbourne Junior School for allowing us to use their hall for the last couple
of years. We are excited to be returning to the town hall.
"It's so central and it is such a pleasant building that it's easy for people to feel comfortable.
"Some members are especially pleased to be returning as they had attended meetings at the town hall for over 10 years.
"As we look at the incredible growth of Christianity throughout the world, we see the basic ingredient is unity and we are all expecting God to do a remarkable work in Melksham."
