CALNE threw away a two-goal lead on Saturday as they came agonisingly close to ending Bitton's unbeaten start.

Bitton are second in Screwfix Division One, but early goals from James Lye and Glenn Armstrong gave the hosts a great opportunity of springing a surprise.

Having been pegged back to 2-2 by half time, Matt Pratley restored Calne's lead early in the second half but Bitton refused to give up and scored the winner 10 minutes from time.

Assistant manager Simon Hillier, who was in charge for the day, said: "In the end I was really disappointed. They had only conceded nine goals before playing us but if you score three you expect to get something out of the game."

Lye gave Calne the lead on seven minutes when he finished from 12 yards after some good work by Kris Beesley.

Five minutes later it was 2-0 as Lye played an innocuous ball that Simon Crawford in the Bitton goal, spilled and Armstrong was on hand.

But in the next 20 minutes an Adam Cole penalty and a Lye own goal brought the visitors level. Calne regained the lead on 62 minutes when Pratley headed a Lye corner into the net, but James Raynes equalised for Bitton on 75 minutes. With eight minutes to go Raynes scored his second to deprive Calne of a point.
