IN response to R J Goulding's letter (Letters, November 26) in which he/she proposes the closure of The Cheriton Nursing Home's respite area as opposed to Wick House, we would like to say that such a proposal is extremely flawed.

He/she is mistaken in asserting that The Cheriton does not have proper bathing facilities or external access for wheelchair residents.

We have experience with wheelchair accessibility as our mother/grandmother is a wheelchair bound resident and also one of us visits in a wheelchair. Neither has experienced any difficulty in accessing the building.

Regarding bathing, our mother/grandmother is given regular baths with disabled facilities.

We would like to add that we have only ever found the nursing and caring staff at The Cheriton to be professional, kind, considerate and respectful towards residents and relatives. We do not hesitate in recommending The Cheriton Nursing Home to anyone.
