DISABLED shoppers can borrow wheelchairs from Age Concern Swindon for free and for up to three months at a time.
The chairs can be collected and returned to Age Concern's headquarters in Milton Road, but the charity says it will deliver them to people at home if necessary.
Jo Osorio, the director of Age Concern Swindon, said: "Hundreds of people borrow our wheelchairs each year sometimes just for a day or two, but often several months.
Whatever the situation our chairs are available.
"There is no charge, though donations are welcome and contribute towards this free service, which costs £5,000 a year to provide.
"We receive no grants from the council or health service to lend wheelchairs.
"But we do know how much they are appreciated by those who borrow them.
"Our service is extremely flexible and we can usually respond within an hour or two that's the difference a charity like ours can make to people's lives and that's why we want to keep it going."
Anyone who wants to borrow a wheelchair should telephone the charity on 01793 692166.
Donations can be made at any time to Age Concern Swindon at 14 Milton Road, SN1 5JE.
Every £100 received will ensure the wheels keep turning for another week.
