CHIPPENHAM slipped to a sixth successive league defeat against Welling as Bluebirds boss Steve White cursed his side's lack of finishing prowess.
White's side carved chances aplenty and should have been out of sight before Welling struck a pair of sucker punches to secure a 2-0 victory.
Strike partners Charlie Griffin and Adie Mings could have bagged a hat-trick each as the hosts bossed proceedings at Hardenhuish Park.
A flurry of openings began on the half-hour mark as Griffin fired wide when clean through.
Mings' flick on sent Griffin clear again moments later with the same outcome.
Mings then headed Ellis Wilmot's cross over from three yards and Griffin shot straight at keeper Gavin Kelly from point-blank range.
But Welling landed a massive blow just before the break.
Dave Powell saw his shot hit the post before Scott Walker lost possession in midfield and ex-Swindon man Austin Berkley headed in Paul Booth's cross.
Gareth Davies though he had levelled after the interval when he headed home a corner but the linesman's flag intervened.
Griffin twice went close before teeing up the unmarked Wilmot who fired woefully over.
Wayne Thorne then cleared Berkley's goal-bound effort off the line but the killer second arrived 20 minutes from time.
Mark Hervin's poor clearance was picked up by substitute Phil Collins who waltzed around the Chippenham keeper to net.
An improved display from the beleaguered Bluebirds but defeat leaves them, along with neighbours Bath, detached at the foot of the Premier Division table.
A disappointed White said: "I don't think I've ever seen such a one-sided game where the dominant team has lost.
"I counted nine gilt-edged opportunities and I was flabbergasted that we didn't score at least one of those.
"Then we've gifted them two goals through a lack of concentration."
CHIPPENHAM: Hervin, Edwards, Thorne, Horgan, Davies, Robertson, Wilmot, Harrington, Griffin, Mings, Walker. Subs: Kilgour, Allison, Porter, O'Halloran. Attendance: 579.
WHITE expected to sign Swindon youngster Ian Herring on a one-month loan deal this morning.
