IMPRESSIONIST Rory Bremner poked fun at George Bush when he turned on the Christmas lights in Lechlade.

The comedian and satirist impersonated the US president thanking residents for allowing him to use the nearby RAF Fairford bomber base to launch raids on Iraq.

Rory, 42, who lives in Eaton Hastings, near Lechlade, flicked the switch to light up the town's Christmas tree in front of a crowd of 600.

Mayor Mike Cawsey, said: "He was really funny and everybody loved him.

"He started by making a joke that the crowd were queuing up to return their books to the library."

The crowd were also entertained by the Swindon Salvation Army Band and the choir from St Lawrence's Church.

Meanwhile, Father Christmas handed out sweets to children.
