WEST Swindon is to get a taste of London's West End with an ice show featuring songs from famous musicals.
This year's Christmas Show at the Link Centre is a departure from the traditional pantomime theme, and sees two retired stage actresses reminisce around the Christmas tree.
The two-hour show is to include songs from Grease, The King and I, Oklahoma and Fame.
The cast of 80, aged from two to 80, began rehearsals in September, and the final performance will feature some 400 costumes.
It will take organisers two days to set up the sound and lighting equipment and install backdrops and curtains to transform the ice rink into a stage.
The Link Centre's annual Christmas show has been running for about 15 years, and the past eight shows have been pantomimes.
"The decision was taken to have a bit of a change to spice it up and keep it interesting," said Piers Harold, the Centre's operations manager.
"It's designed for the whole family to enjoy."
There are two performances on both Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 December, at 2pm and 6pm.
For information or to book tickets, which start at £4.50, call the Link Centre on 01793 445566.
