WOOTTON Bassett Ladies brought Chippenham Town Ladies' winning run to an end with a 3-2 victory in their Wiltshire County League encounter at Christian Malford.
Leaders Chippenham started brightly and put second-placed Bassett under some early pressure but did not take their chances and it was Bassett who opened the scoring when the lively Kirsty Hulse was put through to beat the diving Chippenham keeper at the near post. The home side fought back with a goal from Lucy Bailey, but before half-time Sarah Tyas forced the ball over the line from a corner to give Bassett the lead again.
As expected Chippenham started well after the break, but Hulse scored her second to give the visitors a two-goal cushion.
With 15 minutes remaining Bailey pulled another goal back for Chippenham but Bassett held on with Jodi Steenaart denying Chippenham an equaliser in the dying seconds as she smothered the ball at the feet of a fast approaching Chippenham forward.
Chippenham did have something to cheer on Sunday after being presented with their FA Fair Play Award for Women. Each player received a medal, with the club receiving £200.
