CHIPPENHAM Ladies are top of South West Three after a 17-12 victory over Witney at Allington Field

Good early pressure saw Harriet Crockett go through for the first of her hat-trick of tries.

Throughout the rest of the first half though, Witney turned the tables and applied the pressure.

They kept the ball in among the forwards which resulted in an unconverted try just before half time.

In the second half, Chippenham managed a couple of wins against the head in the scrummage.

This set up Crockett to score her second try, again unconverted.

Shortly afterwards, Witney came back and a breakaway try, coming from a Chippenham mistake, put them into the lead for the first time in the match.

But in the last few minutes, Chippenham's forwards provided a good platform.

And the backs created a slick move to see Crockett complete her hat-trick. Sam Morgan adding the conversion.

Coach Chris Cook said: "Although this was not a pretty game to watch, the ladies kept their heads up throughout.

"It's a good feeling to be on top of the league but the team know that they need to keep their feet firmly on the ground.''
