PUPILS at Westlea Primary School will be greeted every morning by a colourful arch welcoming them to lessons.
The Welcome Arch was created by community artist Gordon Dickinson and the schoolchildren themselves, who suggested how it should be designed.
The arch is decorated with a smiling sun which represents the warm, friendly atmosphere at the school, birds and flowers.
Gordon said: "I was really impressed with the ideas the children came up with.
"One boy suggested a key, which represents the key to knowledge.
"Another child suggested birds, which are meant to show that we all have the ability to fly, in that we can all be successful."
Gordon, of the Purton-based No Added Sugar community art organisation, and colleague Toni Robinson also built a steel sculpture and made painted panels to decorate the school, in Langstone Way, Westlea.
