Pupils from John Bentley School have volunteered to join a youth council to represent young people at North Wiltshire District Council.
The idea was put together by district councillor Carol O'Gorman who holds the youth portfolio.
After the success of local democracy week she decided it was time young people had proper representation on a district level.
"My long term aim is that every decision that comes up at the council, that has anything to do with youth, should go through the youth council. They would debate it in chambers at Monkton Park and representatives would attend the council meetings to have a voice," said Coun O'Gorman.
Sixth form pupils Ollie Smith, Scott McGumigle, Adrianna Harold, Adrian Weissenbach and Luke Jones have signed up to join the council.
They will be meeting in February with pupils from other schools in north Wiltshire to discuss how to move the group forward and what issues need to be tackled.
