THERE is nothing so pleasing, especially at Christmas, than the sound of young voices raised in song.

So the choir of Bishops Cannings Primary School has been in great demand as the festive season unfolds.

They began their Christmas programme by entertaining the members of Bishops Cannings Tuesday Club at the village hall on Tuesday afternoon, delighting the senior citizens with a medley of traditional and modern carols.

Next Tuesday they will be taking part in the school's carol service at the Church of St Mary the Virgin in Bishops Cannings, starting at 6.30pm.

The following day they will entertain residents at Anzac House and Avonmead residential homes in Devizes.

The school is very busy getting ready for Christmas and parents of Year Two pupils were delighted last Thursday when their children performed a nativity play in the school hall.

It is only fairly recently that the school has been able to stage its own performances.

A £400,000 project, completed in July last year, saw a new school hall built, the old kitchen converted into a computer suite and the old hall turned into a library and resource area.

The new hall was inaugurated with a production of The Pied Piper of Hamlin and has been regularly used for theatrical productions ever since.
