Hardenhuish School celebrated the official launch of its new maths and computing specialist status at a ceremony in the technology centre.

School council members greeted guests including local primary school headteachers, Wiltshire County Council leader Coun Jane Scott and North Wiltshire MP James Gray.

The new status will bring in an extra £150,000 a year to the school over four years and a third of that will be spent sharing maths and IT expertise with the community.

"Every young person and curriculum area is already benefiting," headteacher Colin Smith said. "The test will be over the next four years, to watch that investment taking place throughout the school."

He said the school debated the pros and cons of specialist status

because the ethos of the school placed it at the centre of the community, providing education for all young people.
