ROWDE dealer Simon Evans sold drugs to pay for his own habit, Salisbury Crown Court heard on Friday.
Evans, 37, of Springfield Road, was appearing for sentence after admitting two offences in the magistrates' court of possessing cannabis with intent to supply.
The court was told the drugs, with a street value of about £1,500, were found when police searched his home in June.
They also found a dealer's list of names and paraphernalia connected with drugs.
Maria Lamb, prosecuting, said Evans had been a drugs user for some years. He bought in bulk and sold to friends to fund his own use.
Richard Tutt, defending, said Evans had made a full admission when interviewed, saying he sold to a small circle of friends. He did not make much, just enough to cover the cost of his own use.
Mr Tutt said Evans never used any other drug than cannabis and had since cut down on his own drug habit.
He was now assessed as at low risk of committing further offences.
Sentencing Evans to do 100 hours unpaid work under a community penalty order, Judge James Meston told him he did not feel that a custodial sentence was necessary.
